Mr. Lebanon restaurant to benefit Amy's Army
Wednesday, February 02, 2005

Locante's Pizza and Pasta Cafe in Mt. Lebanon is having a 12-day fund-raiser this month to benefit Amy's Army, a volunteer group that is searching for a bone marrow donor for Amy Katz, 12, who has leukemia.

From Feb. 15 to 26, the restaurant will donate 40 percent of the proceeds from two meals: spaghetti and meatballs with soup or side salad and flatbread, or "Amy's Pizza," which is a 12- by 18-inch pan pizza topped with spicy beef. The meals are $10.95 per serving, and the donation will be made for dine-in or takeout orders.

Customers must specify that they are ordering Amy's Army Special Meals.

A Special Celebrity Signed Silent Auction is planned for 1 p.m. Feb. 27. The restaurant is collecting signed items from the Pirates, Steelers and Penguins.

Last February, the restaurant raised $3,000 for Michael Lahoff, a Mt. Lebanon Boy Scout leader who was paralyzed by a gunshot during a 2003 robbery in a Downtown Pittsburgh parking garage.

Katz, a seventh-grade pupil at Jefferson Middle School in Mt. Lebanon, was diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia in the autumn of 2003. A bone marrow transplant is her best hope for a cure.

Though Amy's Army donor drives have produced more than 4,000 potential donors, none of them is a match for Amy. Neither are the 212,000 potential donors in the HLA Registry. Amy's Army needs $70 to process and test the blood of each potential donor. Donor drives for Amy will benefit other patients who need transplants.

Locante's is at 186 Castle Shannon Blvd. For further information or to donate auction items, call 412-207-4463.
