A maintenance worker found the body of a Squirrel Hill man, bound and shot, on a hillside behind a North Side recreation center on Monday morning, police said.
They identified the man as Lee Schwartz, 53, and said he suffered a gunshot wound to the head. The maintenance worker called 911 at 7:14 a.m., upon the discovery in the 100 block of Hazlett Street, near the Urban League Family Support Center.
Police began searching for Mr. Schwartz when he failed to show up for work. Detectives are trying to determine whether he was taken from his home or left there willingly.
Mr. Schwartz's court records show decades-old arrests for crimes including receiving stolen property. In 2002, he was sentenced to probation on a drug possession charge. Police did not comment on a motive for his slaying.
