Tuesday, August 31, 2010

A Connecticut man who had been sought in the shooting death Aug. 7 of a man in Beaver Falls surrendered Monday night to authorities in Hartford.

Beaver Falls Police Chief Charles Jones said this morning that his officers will pick up the suspect, Christopher Nicholas Bailey, 26, in Hartford and return him for prosecution.

Mr. Bailey, of East Hartford, is charged with homicide and related counts in the fatal shooting of Steven Hardy Jr., 22, at about 3 a.m. Aug. 7 outside an after-hours club in Beaver Falls.

Mr. Hardy, of Ambridge, grew up in Aliquippa where he was the quarterback on the high school football team in 2004 and 2005.

Images on a video surveillance camera and witness statements led investigators to Mr. Bailey.

The suspect, for several months since last spring, resided at various places in Beaver Falls.

Witnesses told police that Mr. Hardy was gunned down in the 600 block of Seventh Street, just outside the Brighton Pioneer Lodge.

Investigators said the victim was shot seven times, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
