A South Side building on the site of a planned discount supermarket is being demolished this morning.
The city's Historic Review Commission initially denied permission to demolish the building at 2628 E. Carson St., but on Aug. 4 overturned its previous decision requiring developer Burns & Scalo Real Estate to relocate the building. The developer wants to build an Aldi supermarket at the site.
The decision was appealed to Common Pleas Court.
The city code requires a property to be posted for demolition for 15 days before a work permit can be issued. The property was posted Aug. 9, the city issued a demolition permit Aug. 19 and work began Monday, 14 days after posting.
On Tuesday, Common Pleas Court Judge Joseph James issued an order on architect Gerald Morosco's appeal of that approval. He sustained the preliminary objection, dismissed the appeal and lifted the stay of demolition.
