When deer struck car, others stopped to help

On Aug. 30, I was driving on Cedar Boulevard in Mt. Lebanon when my car was jolted in the back and in the rear passenger door area behind the driver. The force shook the car (and me).

I had no idea what had happened, but upon looking in my rear view mirror, I saw an injured deer. Unfortunately, there was nothing I could do for the deer, but a very kind gentleman traveling in the opposite direction stopped and asked about me.

Then the woman behind me got out and came over to also ask about my well-being. Fortunately I was fine -- just shook and concerned for the deer. Although I did say "thank you" to each at that time, I did not get either of their names.

I hope you both are reading this and will again accept my sincere thanks. I have always been aware of the kindness of Pittsburghers and now have experienced it first-hand. It's a pleasure to live here, and I will "pay it forward."

(The deer eventually ran off with what appeared to be a broken leg. The Mt. Lebanon police came and went looking for the deer.)

Stranger happily gave a gift to individual with disabilities

I help support mentally/physically challenged people reach their goals in life. A couple of weeks ago a group of us had an opportunity to attend a Chris Denem concert at Robin Hill Park in Moon. Mr. Denem sings Neil Diamond songs and my buddy V.S. loves Neil Diamond's music.

After V.S. had the time of his life singing and dancing to Mr. Denem's music, V.S. and I walked up to the stage to pick up some pamphlets on Chris Denem's future shows.

After we retrieved the pamphlets and were turning to leave, an older gentleman stopped me and commented that V.S. really seemed to enjoy the show. I agreed, and before I knew it, the gentleman was buying V.S. one of Chris Denem's CDs. I told him that wasn't necessary, but the gentleman insisted on buying V.S. the CD.

V.S. really appreciated that gift. It was like the icing on the top of the cake to a wonderful afternoon.

Kennywood trip was sidetracked until man intervened for family

I left my home in the Burgettstown area July 30 with one of my granddaughters to meet my two daughters and eight more of my grandchildren for a day at Kennywood Park.

We met at Eat'n Park in McKeesport and went inside to have a bite to eat. Excitedly, we all left the restaurant to continue our trip. As I approached my car, I realized I'd locked my keys in my car, something I haven't done in over 30 years.

After I called my husband to get the number for our road service, I found out that it would be at least 45 minutes till the locksmith could get there, and it would really put a damper on the day.

An employee named George, just ending his shift, was going to his car and asked what the problem was. He asked if my daughter could go to the establishment in the next lot and try to find a hanger. She did, and soon returned with our "key" for George to gain entrance to my car.

With the help of two of my grandsons, he slid the hanger down along the window, pulled up the lock and opened the door. Everyone cheered, and I thanked George, but he refused any reward money and said, "Go have a great day with all your beautiful family."

We all climbed into cars and were off to Kennywood for a terrific day. Thank you again, George.

His good deed and banter made an old woman happy

I am an elderly woman. Recently I came out of the Dollar General Store adjacent to Giant Eagle with two large bags of paper products.

A very nice young man said to me, "Baby, you need help," and proceeded to carry my packages to the car. I so appreciated his help, and his calling me "baby" gave me and my friends many chuckles.
