A 36-inch water main break in South Fayette on Boyce Road caused road closings, water outtages and school cancelation after rupturing around 3 a.m. today.
Boyce Road is closed between Mayview Road and Washington Pike and is not expected to reopen until Monday.
Pennsylvania American Water Co. was able to isolate the break, but 12 customers remain out of water. Customers can anticipate resumption of their service by early evening today, said Gary Lobaugh, the company's external affairs manager for western Pennsylvania.
Some customers in higher elevated areas are experiencing low water pressure, as well.
The South Fayette School District closed for the day, but will open tomorrow as scheduled, said Superintendent Bille Pearce Rondinelli. The water pressure was back by noon, in plenty of time for after-school activities and Middle School Curriculum night to continue as planned.
